Undergraduate College/University: Trinity College
Major (Minor): Neuroscience (Concentration in Clinical/Cognitive studies)
Graduation Year: 2019
Hi everybody! My name is Becky Reifler and I am from Garden City, NY on Long Island. I went to Garden City High School where I graduated in 2015. I graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT this spring earning a B.S. in Neuroscience with a concentration in Clinical/Cognitive studies . During my undergraduate career at Trinity, I spent two years interning down the block at the Olin Neuropsychiatric Research Center at the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital. While I was there, I worked in Dr. Michal Assaf's lab in her Autism Spectrum Disorders and Schizophrenia in Social Cognition lab. The study involved comparing the brains of Autistic, Schizophrenic, some with both Autism and Schizophrenia and healthy control participants when in social situations. This was done so through the use of fMRI and a series of empathy and theory of mind tests completed when within the scanner. I assisted in recruiting participants from the Hartford area and student populations from schools including Central Connecticut State University, University of Hartford, and Trinity. One of the many things I learned while working there was how to manually score a series of psychological tests including the NEO personality inventory, WAIS, SCID and many others. My time at Olin allowed me to create relationships with hospital staff that I never would have been able to make if I stayed on campus to do research. I am very interested in doing research on neuropsychological disorders and hope to pursue work in neuropsychological research after finishing school, hopefully within the pediatric population.
When not in class, on the basketball court, or doing research, I worked in Trinity's sports communication department where I kept statistics for many of our varsity sports teams and helped make sure that all of our athletic events were planned and ran smoothly for all of our varsity athletes.
Outside of academics, I have always been an athlete and enjoy being active through sports. I played varsity basketball at Trinity College and also enjoy coaching youth sports. When not playing sports or running, I like to spend time with friends.
