Presidential Search Update: Jan. 23, 2020
Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
I am writing to update you on the status of the Stony Brook University presidential search. The search committee has met several times since our kick-off meeting in September, and our consultant search firm has been busy communicating with and vetting potential candidates to ensure a robust candidate pool. In addition, I have appointed a Diversity Advocate to our committee to ensure we seek diverse candidates in that pool.
Our goal is to attract a dynamic, strategic and collaborative leader who will continue the momentum of the past few years and bring Stony Brook to the next level in its role as a top national research university. As such, we are casting a wide net to seek out and attract highly qualified, diverse individuals who are motivated to lead our university to even greater achievement.
The search committee has selected some terrific candidates to interview. Those interviews will be conducted next week and could continue into mid-February. The SUNY Chancellor charged our committee to recommend its top five choices to the Stony Brook Council sometime this winter. The Council is then required to recommend three semi-finalists to the Chancellor for her consideration and then ultimately an approval and appointment by the SUNY Board of Trustees on a final candidate.
I will continue to keep you informed as the search progresses. Your comments are still welcomed at PresidentialSearch@stonybrook.edu.
