Suzanne Shane

Chief Campus Counsel

Suzanne V. Shane joined the State University of New York as an Associate Counsel at Stony Brook University in 2010. Immediately prior to joining SUNY, Shane was Associate Counsel at Long Island University where she assisted the General Counsel in the management of the University’s legal affairs with specific emphasis on transactional, business, intellectual property and contractual matters.

In her current position as Interim Chief Campus Counsel, Shane advises on a broad range of issues including student centered matters (for both the undergraduate colleges and the
professional schools) including review and interpretation of academic and disciplinary policy and procedure, study abroad and international programs, admissions and career placement. Ms. Shane also advises on matters relating to Title IX, employment and labor; the academic medical center; First Amendment; research misconduct, copyright and trademark law. She is a graduate of SUNY Stony Brook (B.S.) and New York Law School (J.D. cum laude) and is admitted to practice law in New York State and the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts.
