A Message to our Pre-Health Students

We hope you are doing well and staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. As a result of COVID-19 the pre-health team advisors are working remotely to do our best to ensure our operations will continue as seamless as possible. As a result, there are some updates about our office procedures that have changed given the current situation. We understand that you may have concerns and we want to assure you that our office is still available to assist you throughout the application process.

Making Appointments
Our office is currently working remotely. If you have any advising questions, please reach out via email at prehealth@stonybrook.edu

If you are a current student and would like to schedule an advising appointment, please utilize the Navigate app (stonybrook.edu/navigate) All advising appointments will be held virtually. Once an appointment is booked, an advisor will follow up with you via email with a link to access the virtual meeting. (If you are an alumni looking to schedule an advising appointment, please email us and include some days/times you are available.)

SBU School of Nursing Pre-requisites
The School of Nursing will accept a passing grade "P" (equivalent to at least a C) for all pre-admission course work for the spring 2020 semester.  The exception to these guidelines are the pre-admission sciences.  We will allow up to 4 credits of a passing grade "P" for the pre-admission sciences. They will not accept F or NC grades.

For the Summer 2020 the School of Nursing will accept  Anatony and Physiology courses at other institutions which have been traditionally accepted if the mode of instruction has transitioned to online learning.  Please note HAN 200 and 202 offered at SBU will NOT  be accepted for admission.

Committee Letter Interviews
Committee Letter Interviews will continue. However, instead of in-person interviews, we will now be using Zoom web
conferencing. You will receive details via email about joining the Zoom meeting as the interview date gets closer.

When you are ready to schedule a committee letter interview, please send us an email at prehealth@stonybrook.edu . We will review your file to make sure you have submitted all the necessary documents, and then we will share upcoming interview times for you to select from.

When asking for recommendation letters, please encourage your recommenders to submit letters via email. Since our office is operating remotely, we currently do not have access to recommendation letters that are mailed or faxed to the office. Remember to thank your recommenders for taking the time to write a letter on your behalf.

We will continue to post online webinars and events on our website which may be of interest to current applicants. Please check our homepage and pre-health events calendar for more details.

When asking for recommendation letters, please share with them that letters will now need to be emailed to the prehealth@stonybrook.edu. Since our office is operating remotely, we currently do not have access to recommendation letters that are mailed or faxed to the office. Remember to thank your recommenders for taking the time to write a letter on your behalf!
