Getting Around

The Global Navigation Bar located at the top of the screen is universal to all screens and includes drop-down menus that provide access to the additional functionality grouped categorically under the menus.

The main navigation consists of the following:

  • Dashboard: Includes access to each individual user’s workflow, inbox, and Dashboard gadgets. The Dashboard is the default location when a user has not logged in via a specific page.
  • Content: The Content menu includes access to the Pages list view and assets. This is where most of your work will be done, specifically within the Pages view, which shows you the pages and folders for your site.
  • Reports: Provides access to administrative-level reporting and content management functionality.
  • User Avatar, or Gravatar, and User Name: Allows users to edit their personal settings or log out of OU Campus.
  • Help: Help menu items include a link to the OU Support Site, the OCN community site, feedback and release notes.

There is a secondary navigation bar below the Global bar that includes breadcrumbs letting you know where you are within the site structure.

file nav sidebarThe File Navigation sidebar is one of two global sidebars available on each screen. The File Navigation, located on the left, can be manually collapsed (click the x) or expanded. The sidebar allows for users to easily browse through pages, files, and directories within the site, as linked content can be accessed by clicking on it. This also allows for users to navigate through the structure of the site without leaving the page they are currently viewing.

The view can be toggled between Pages and Assets. Status indicators and file icons indicate the status of a particular piece of content as well as the file type.

The Keep Synced (lock icon) can be used to synchronize the list within the sidebar with where the user is in the site structure. For example, if the Keep Synced icon is activated, a user navigating through a site's file structure would see the File Navigation sidebar change to match the user's location within the site.

The Gadgets sidebar can be configured to include specific system and customized gadgets that can be utilized to help edit and manage content. Located on the right, the Gadgets sidebar can be manually collapsed or expanded (click the plug icon). Users can choose which gadgets to show and hide on the sidebar by clicking the Choose Gadgets (gear icon) button.

Dashboard

The Dashboard Overview screen by default displays three gadgets: Activity (list of site activity within OU Campus), Checked Out Content (pages you have checked out), and Inbox (messages from other users in your group or from administrators).

Content

The content view is where most of your work will be done, specifically within the Pages view, which shows you the pages and folders for your site. You may collapse or expand the file navigation sidebar on the left. The list includes the file or folder name, status (checked in or out for files) last modified date and time and an OPTIONS section.

When you mouse over a page or folder in the site list, you will see text appear within the OPTIONS column. For a folder, the options are EDIT or FILE. Under EDIT you may updated access to that folder. Under FILE you may rename, move, copy or delete the folder.

pagesFor a file, your options are EDIT, REVIEW or FILE.

Under EDIT, you may edit the page, access to the page, or set reminders. Selecting 'page' is the same as clicking the filename itself to edit the page, and you will be taken to the editor.

Under REVIEW, you may preview the file or see the log of actions to the file.

Under FILE, you may rename, move, copy or move the file to the recycle bin.

You can also select one or more files/folders to take action on by clicking the check box in the left-most column of the pages view.

If you select a folder, you may either move, copy or delete that folder -- the options appear at the top of the list.

If you select a file, you may check the file(s) out, edit, move, copy or move to the recycle bin.

Reports

If you select REPORTS in the global navigation, you may select one of several reports. You may view required actions, checked out content, pending approvals, scheduled actions, recent saves and recent publishes.
