What is Experience Stony Brook?
Experience Stony Brook is a multi-day program. You will meet with other transfer students and will receive important information about your rights and responsibilities as a Stony Brook student, including policy information on issues such as drugs and alcohol, sexual assault, hazing, and the University code of conduct. You will also receive lunch and your student ID card and have the opportunity to visit an information fair consisting of various university departments. You will attend a series of programs and activities designed to acclimate you to Stony Brook and introduce you to faculty, staff, and fellow students.
These days are required for all new students. Students who do not attend Experience Stony Brook will receive an Orientation Hold on their account and will be required to participate in the Required Orientation Makeup Experience (ROME) during the semester.
What is the schedule for the weekend?
Residential transfer students are required to attend Friday and Saturday and will receive agendas for the weekend at residence hall move in and at Experience Stony Brook check-in on Saturday. Commuter transfer students are required to attend on Saturday and will receive an agenda at ESB check-in on Saturday. Sunday events will be detailed on the agenda but are optional for transfer students. More information about check in time and location will be sent to you via email in mid-August.
What should I bring to Experience Stony Brook?
For Experience Stony Brook, students are required to bring their student ID to all events, as attendance will be taken via your ID card. Student IDs will be picked up when residential students check-in to the residence halls on Friday. Commuter students can pick up their ID card at the Commuter Expo on Friday or at ESB check in on Saturday.
Can I bring a guest to Experience Stony Brook?
Guests are welcome to assist residential students with move-in and attend our Family Welcome event, however, they are not able to attend Experience Stony Brook events.
Who can I contact if I have questions or need accommodations?
Students who have questions about orientation or require an accommodation should contact the office of Student Orientation and Family Programs at (631) 632-6710. Students who have special dietary needs should be sure to indicate this on the Advising Planning Form on SOLAR.
