Families of Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) Students

*Please contact the EOP/AIM  Office for more information*

Partner with us!

The Office of Student Orientation and Family Programs and the Educational Opportunity Program understands the key role that family members play in their students' lives and educational success by providing continued communication and support.  Family members & guests are not with their student during the afternoon portion of orientation and is modeled this way to help students take ownership of their education early on, as well as develop the skills they'll need to be successful at SBU. By attending our Family & Guest Orientation Program, families can build a partnership with our Offices, focusing on ways in which everyone can support students in reaching their educational and career goals. Please note that separate activities for siblings or young children are not provided.

Program Logistics

There will be two Family & Guest Orientation Program dates offered in summer. Please contact the EOP/AIM Office for more information.

Please note: You are automatically registered for your student’s assigned orientation date, however, the Family & Guest Orientation Program is optional . Family & guests may elect which activities they choose to attend, although they will not be able to join the student program after a certain time (this time will be highlighted on the agenda you will receive at check-in).There is no fee to attend a Family & Guest Orientation Program. Lunch will be provided for up to two guests, any additional guests will need to purchase their own meal.

At the Family & Guest Orientation Program, families will learn about EOP/AIM, the Summer Academy, the transition to college and the potential change in family dynamics, academic and social aspects of campus, as well as campus resources available to families and students. Families will have the opportunity to engage with current students and hear their stories as well as gain an administrative perspective on the university from faculty and staff. This will also be a prime opportunity to meet with other EOP family members and network!
