"Powerhouse mezzo" (Albert Williams, The Chicago Reader) Caitlin McKechney is an active performer in multiple genres from contemporary music to musical theater to country music. Most recently, Caitlin workshopped Kirsten Volness's 'Letters That You Will Not Get' with The American Opera Project, a performance that was converted to audio and video recordings in the wake of COVID restrictions. In 2019, she reprised two favorite roles of Carmen and Lilli Vanessi in Kiss Me Kate, with Painted Sky Opera and Broadway Theater of Pitman, respectively. She returned to Tacoma Opera in February of 2018 as the title role in Carmen, which she has also performed with Opera Memphis, where she was hailed by John W. Sparks of the Commercial Appeal for her "captivating vocals and powerful expressions … vividly showing vulnerability and intelligence." Also a crossover artist, Caitlin was recently seen as Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Cole Porter’s Kiss Me Kate with North Street Playhouse and as an actor-musician in Frank McCourt’s The Irish and How They Got That Way with Bucks County Center for the Performing Arts. Favorite roles include the title role in La Perichole (Tacoma Opera, “...low notes like pools of water…” - The News Tribune), Inez Serrano in Andy Vores's No Exit and Suzuki in Madame Butterfly (Florida Grand Opera), Mezzo in Phillip Glass’s Hydrogen Jukebox, Third Lady in Magic Flute and Tisbe in La Cenerentola (Nashville Opera), Maddalena in Rigoletto (Opera Memphis), Ruth in Pirates of Penzance and Flora in La Traviata (Opera North), Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore (Opera New Jersey) and Hansel in in Hansel and Gretel (Amore Opera). She is also a member of the new music ensemble Hotel Elefant and is the founder and band leader of the Opera Cowgirls.
