Michael Bennett

Michael Bennett is a PhD student in the Music History and Theory program. His research interests revolve broadly around aesthetic and listening communities in Italy during and in the wake of World War II, in particular how they relate to the evolution of mass media culture, shifting attitudes towards Fascism, and the Italian avant-garde. Additionally, His work often touches on more theoretical considerations of cultural modernity and postmodernity as well as the political economy of music. Michael’s most recent project reconsiders the novel compositional techniques of the Italian post-war avant-garde within the context of anti-Fascist sentiment and ideologies of resistance.
