Alison RoweChamber Music Coach

Alison Rowe, cellist, is a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook University where she earned her Masters in 2016. While at Stony Brook, Alison has performed with the Three Village Chamber Players, the Steinem Quartet, Stony Brook Contemporary Chamber Players, Stony Brook Baroque Players, and members of the Emerson String Quartet. During her second year at Stony Brook, she co-founded Taylor Ackley and the Deep Roots Ensemble, a group that specializes in performing traditional American music in classical music settings. The Deep Roots Ensemble recently released their first album “Songs from the Bitterroot,” featuring all original music by New York based composers Taylor Ackley and Peter Winkler. Another group of which she is a founding member, the Steinem Quartet, became part of the Emerson String Quartet Institute in Fall 2017. Steinem performed the premiere of Perry Goldstein’s "Piece for Cello and Quartet” on the Starry Nights Series with Colin Carr and the premiere of Eugene Drucker’s song cycle “Levertov Settings” with soprano Rachel Schutz at Carnegie Hall. Alison earned her B.M. at the Chicago College of Performing Arts under the tutelage of Chicago Symphony cellist Richard Hirschl. She has attended many summer music festivals such as the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, New Music for Strings, Banff Centre for the Arts Masterclass Program, and the Madison Early Music Festival. In addition to performing, Alison is an instructor of aural skills and music history through the Stony Brook Young Artist Program. She also maintains an active private studio, teaches musicianship at the Stony Brook University Young Artist Program, and coaches chamber music through the Stony Brook Community Music Program.
