The Boren Scholarship: Not Just for Political Scientists and Historians!

The Boren Scholarship is unique (and a bit misunderstood) among the awards the IREP Office promotes. Boren targets students seeking to study overseas for an academic year.  S horter lengths of study will be considered for STEM students, specifically . Applicants study a less commonly taught language outside the U.S., Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

Successful candidates will be able to relate their career goals, as well as country and language choice to U.S. national security broadly defined. Students in diverse fields (from the arts to STEM) have made convincing national security arguments. Applicants must demonstrate interest in government service, also broadly defined (from the Department of Defense to the Centers for Disease Control to the Peace Corps).

These highly competitive awards provide funding for 1 to 2 years Master's study in England ( ChurchillGates, and  Rhodes)
or the UK as a whole ( Marshall).

Outstanding SBU students of Scottish descent should consider applying for the  St. Andrew's Society of the State of New York Scholarship, specifically.
