State University of New York 

The University of the State of New York, which was incorporated in 1784, is also known as the Education Department, or State Education Department. It is the body charged with the supervision of the State's entire system of education. The governing body is the Board of Regents. The Commissioner of Education is the President of the University of the State of New York. 

The State University of New York was established in 1948 through legislative implementation of recommendations made by the Temporary Commission on the Need for a State University (1946-1948), chaired by Owen D. Young. SUNY comprises all institutions of higher education that are state supported. The governing body is the Board of Trustees. The Chancellor is the Chief Executive Officer of State University of New York.
