Educational Opportunity Program/Advancement on Individual Merit (EOP/AIM)
EOP combines access, academic support and supplemental financial assistance to make higher education possible for students who have the potential to succeed, despite poor preparation and limited financial resources. EOP/AIM students work with a committed team of counselors and advisors to develop a plan that will carry them through their undergraduate years.
Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)
STEP provides academic and social support to underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged middle and high school students who intend to pursue STEM degrees or licensed professions when they advance to collegiate studies. STEP provides academic-year enrichment activities through a robust Saturday program, as well as a summer residential program that includes exploration in health careers, environmental geology and topics in STEM. STEP is supported by the New York State Education Department.
Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP)
CSTEP provides academic and social support to historically underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged Stony Brook University students who are enrolled in STEM majors and/or majors that will lead to professional licensure in New York State. CSTEP offers study groups, professional school exam preparation, academic/career advising and a pre-freshman summer residential program for credit and academic enrichment. CSTEP also maintains an extensive file of internship and research opportunities for both academic-year and summer placements. CSTEP is supported by the New York State Education Department.
Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP)
Stony Brook University is lead institution for the 14-institution alliance of the SUNY LSAMP. In the 2017–2018 academic year, the participating institutions awarded approximately 1,500 bachelor’s degrees in STEM, 140 master’s degrees in STEM and 30 PhD degrees in STEM to underrepresented minority students. SUNY LSAMP is supported by the National Science Foundation.
S-STEM ASSETS (Scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — Academic and Social STEM Excellence for Transfer Students
S-STEM ASSETS helps transfer students who have been accepted into a STEM major at Stony Brook improve their overall success at the University — academically, socially and professionally. The program launched in 2018 and is the result of a $1 million, five-year grant from the National Science Foundation.
Institute for STEM Education (I-STEM)
I-STEM provides comprehensive, high-quality STEM education through academic-year and summer activities for faculty, graduate students, undergraduates and K-12 students and teachers
