  • Biography

    Hyun Choo is an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Asian and Asian-American Studies at Stony Brook University. She received her Ph.D. in 2003 with a dissertation titled “An annotated translation of the Commentary on the Heart Sūtra: Wonch’uk’s unique exposition of the Yogācāra interpretation of the Heart Sūtra.” Based on her interdisciplinary studies of Buddhism, Psychology, and Philosophy, she extends her research to a cross-cultural perspective in the area of early Buddhism, Chinese Chan and Korean Seon traditions, and mind science. She teaches Korean Religions and various subjects of Buddhism, including Buddhist enlightenment and mindfulness meditation. Hyun has served as a Section Chair of Mid-Atlantic American Academy of Religion since 2009.
