Hae Joo Kim, Ph.D.


Hae Joo Kim's research interests include the traditional, contemporary, and popular musics of Korea, the music of TV and film, and issues of media and globalization. She holds degrees from the Manhattan School of Music and Peabody Conservatory of Music, where she studied Western art music, and Drexel University, where she studied arts administration. She received her Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University with a dissertation titled "Hearing the Korean Global: Hallyu in the Music of K-dramas," a study that examines music in contemporary Korean television dramas alongside the larger phenomenon of the Korean Wave.
