Smartphone Digital Storytelling
Students who are not coming to campus, or who cannot access the Newsroom and other School of Communication and Journalism spaces should consider using some of the following tools to complete assignments.
Students can access select Adobe programs from home through DoIT's new Remote SINC Sites.
Students who are taking classes remotely and do not have access to campus technology have several options for completing their multimedia assignments.
DaVinci Resolve is a free video editing program that is comparable to Adobe Premier for video editing. Download the at-home, not the studio, version.
ClipChamp is another free video editing program. This one is particularly useful for students with slower computers. All video editing is done in the cloud, so only an internet connection is necessary.
Remember: Your reporting and storytelling abilities are what will get you jobs and internships, not the equipment that you use. Many professional journalism organizations use smartphones instead of thousand-dollar cameras and free or inexpensive software as well.
