Physics Summer Program 

 

Introductory Physics Program


In an active, hands-on format, students will be introduced to classical branches of physics, including experimental measurement, Newtonian Mechanics, electricity, waves and optics.

Dates: July 22 - July 26, 2019
Application Deadline: April 1, 2019 - EXTENDED TO  MAY 1
Application Instructions: Student fills out Applicaton Form (see below).  Teachers fill out Recommendation Forms (see below).  Students need to share the link to this page with the teachers who need to fill out their recommendation forms.
Cost: $600 ($50 due upon acceptance, balance due two weeks before first day of the program)
Financial Aid: There are a limited number of full and/or partial scholarships are available to  applicants who are eligible for the Federal free or reduced lunch program.  Please submit a  letter, on letterhead, from an official at the school district  or the letter you received stating that you are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program in order to be considered for a scholarship.  This letter  MUST be included with your application.
Eligibility: Students entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in the fall 2019.  Students with a strong interest and background in math and science are encouraged to apply. This camp is not for students who have taken physics.
Lab Hours:
Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 4:00pm
Friday 9:00am - 3:00pm

Housing: For students who choose to live in a dormitory on the Stony Brook campus the cost will be approximately $50 per night.  The cost of food will be approximately $150 for the week.  Once accepted into the program, students will be given a link to register for housing. 

 

 

 

 

   

Advanced Physics Program

In an active, hands-on format, students will be introduced to advanced branches of physics that don't usually make it into the high school curriculum, including electronics, optics and particle physics.

Dates: July 8 - July 12, 2019
Application Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by April 1, 2019
Cost: $600 ($50 due upon acceptance, balance due two weeks before first day of the program)
Financial Aid: There are a limited number of full and/or partial scholarships are available to  applicants who are eligible for the Federal free or reduced lunch program.  Please submit a  letter, on letterhead, from an official at the school district  or the letter you received stating that you are eligible for the free or reduced lunch program in order to be considered for a scholarship.   This letter  MUST be included with your application.
