WISE Program Honored by AAU Mini-Grant

wise studentAccording to SBU News, Stony Brook University was selected to receive an AAU (Association of American Universities) mini-grant to help advance our WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) honors curriculum. The WISE program offers rigorous coursework and opportunities for female students at all academic levels to help encourage their careers in STEM careers.

According to IACS Affiliate, Mónica Bugallo, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Faculty Director of the WISE Honors Program, the WISE program has been a rousing success. “In fact, close to 200 middle and high school students participate in WISE initiatives each year and almost 400 students are enrolled in the WISE undergraduate program. Thanks to programs like WISE Honors, enrollment of women undergraduate students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences alone has risen to 25 percent, the highest it has ever been and well above the national average.” (SBU News).

This grant will help to create more opportunities and enrich the community in STEM for graduate and undergraduate female students to learn and collaborate.
