The 2018-2019 school year is off to a roaring start thanks to the Institute for Advanced Computational Science Student Association. On Thursday September 13th, the IACS Student Association hosted a meet-and-greet social get-together for all students acrossFALL 2018 SOCIAL meet campus interested in computational science. However, this was not just another ho-hum networking event for graduate students. According to IACS Student Association President Jonathan Rawski, “We had over 100 people registered, from 10 departments, and many people were first-year students or were coming to the IACS for the first time.” With appetizers and ale supplied by the Student Association, the evening event was abuzz. “I think it was a great way to show how lively the atmosphere here is,” said Rawski, “and to showcase our lineup of events this semester.” This annual social event is “great place to meet with other students from different disciplines,” said Aditi Ghai, Treasurer of the IACS Student Association. “I had a great time getting to know how diverse our research community is at Stony Brook University.”
