“Reflections on Prairie Rising: Indigenous Youth, Decolonization, and the Politics of Intervention” Jaskiran Dhillon The New School Lecture: Thursday, December 7, 2017 4:00 PM Workshop: Friday, December 8, 2017 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Rm 1008 Humanities In her new book, Prairie Rising: Indigenous Youth, Decolonization, and the Politics of Intervention, Dhillon examines the changing face of settler colonialism through an ethnographic investigation of Indigenous-state relations, with a focus on the lives of Indigenous youth, in the city of Saskatoon, Canada. Her lecture will discuss the ways the various players within the community utilize participatory politics in order to intervene in the lives of these youths who live under conditions of colonial occupation and marginality, and sheds light on how the changing forms of settler governance and the interlocking systems of education, child welfare, and criminal justice sustain it |

Jaskiran Dhillon is an academic/organizer who grew up on Treaty Six Cree Territory in Saskatchewan, Canada. Her first book, Prairie Rising: Indigenous Youth, Decolonization, and the Politics of Intervention (2017), provides an ethnographic account of state interventions in the lives of Indigenous youth.
