Dissertation Title: Order and Chaos in the Cluster: A Typology of Pronominal and Nonpronominal Clitics

Russell Tanenbaum is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Linguistics. His dissertation research investigates the boundary between language sound and structure, drawing parallels between clitic clustering phenomena in four unrelated languages - Chinese, Czech, Tagalog and Quechua – with the goal of shedding light on the inner-workings of language in general.
