Our Students, Our Pride

Since its inception in 2000, the Stars of Stony Brook Gala has provided more than $59 million in academic programs and scholarships, which have made a significant impact on the lives of our exceptional students, helping them to connect with the ideas that will shape their futures. The generosity of our friends and supporters has enabled our student scholars to demonstrate to the world that they are the true stars of Stony Brook.

 

Daniel Aldarondo  

Daniel Aldarondo

Class of 2021

Daniel is double majoring in biochemistry and psychology. They are currently treasurer of the Linguistics Club and an event coordinator of Stony Brook Bhangra. They aspire to pursue a PhD in molecular psychology.

Olga V. Aristova  

Olga V. Aristova

Class of 2020

Olga is double majoring in economics and applied mathematics. She is a math tutor for the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and a research assistant at the Center of Entrepreneurial Finance. Olga is vice president of the Investment Club and Economics Club and is also a member of Stony Brook’s Running Club. After graduation, she will work as a quantitative analyst for Citigroup.

Taylor Esposito  

Taylor Esposito

Class of 2021

Taylor is pursuing a double major in political science and philosophy and a double minor in United States history and professional writing. She is an Honors College student and has served as an Orientation Leader, Leadership and Service Forever Fellow, Resident Assistant, Women’s Leadership Council member, Undergraduate Legal Intern for Stony Brook’s General Counsel, Summer URECA Researcher, and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Science. Taylor is also involved on campus in Model United Nations, Pre-Law Society, and serves as the president of I AM THAT GIRL and the captain of the Stony Brook Mock Trial team.

Nylette Lopez  

Nylette López

Class of 2021

Nylette is pursuing a   BE in engineering science. She serves as the President of CSTEP Club, an RA in Baruch College in Kelly Quad, and as a tuba player for the Spirit of Stony Brook Marching Band. Nylette is a recent addition to the Intercollegiate Athletic Council and was crowned Homecoming Royalty in 2019. She is a Women’s Leadership Council member and has a passion for STEM Outreach and advocating for the needs of underrepresented student populations.

Ryan McHugh  

Ryan McHugh

Class of 2020

Ryan is double majoring in biology and chemistry and aspires to pursue a PhD in computational structural biology. They hope to become a professor and are inspired by other scholars in their field. Ryan is a member of the Chemistry Honor Society and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. They are a Goldwater Scholarship recipient and an Amgen Scholar, which allowed them to work as a researcher at Kyoto University in Japan.

Kiara Thomas  

Kiara Thomas

Class of 2021

Kiara Thomas is a junior journalism major and Africana studies minor.  She is the editor in chief of Black World, a newspaper on campus that provides a voice for the black and Hispanic/Latino communities, and a member of the Women’s Leadership Council.  Recently, Kiara worked in collaboration with six other students on the Long Island Pine Barrens Project, where she reported on the importance of the ecosystem in regards to Long Island’s drinking water. Her future plans consist of being the editor in chief of her own newspaper.

Elizabeth Tulchinsky  

Elizabeth Tulchinsky

Class of 2023

Elizabeth is a chemistry major and plans on pursuing a career in dermatology. On-campus, Elizabeth is a member of the Chemistry Club, Pre-Med Society, Stony Brook Science Olympiad and the Neuroscience Axis Club. She serves as secretary of 3Diatrics, where she uses a 3D printer to construct toys for children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. This spring, she will travel to Honduras with the Global Medical Brigades to help implement a sustainable health system.

Jessica Vilas-Boas  

Jessica Vilas-Boas

Class of 2020

Jessica is a biochemistry major and aspiring structural biologist that researches a series of inhibitors related to FDA-approved leukemia drugs and presents at national research conferences. Jessica serves on the President’s Council of Student Advisors, the CSTEP Advisory Board, and as an INSPIRE peer mentor. She is on the Women’s Leadership Council and WISE that work to abolish boundaries to marginalized students. A studio arts minor, Jessica explores metaphysical and sociological concepts in her photography.

Ian Winkeler  

Ian Winkeler

Class of 2023

Ian is a biochemistry major and plans to attend medical school to become a neurologist. He belongs to the Stony Brook University chapter of Doctors Without Borders, is a member of Phi Delta Epsilon and is a certified EMT at the Nissequogue Volunteer Fire Department. Ian is a National Merit finalist and has played alto saxophone at Carnegie Hall.
