How to Buy Your Summer 2019 Textbooks

It’s time to order your textbooks through Stony Brook University’s official campus store provider at SBU Shop Red.

In order to have your books ready for the first day of classes, it is important that you place your order now. Our textbook ordering website sbushopred.com will be temporarily down for a complete refresh starting on May 29 at 6pm through June 1. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience. This website update will enable us to offer you an improved online experience.

To assist with getting your books on-time, Follett is offering free shipping on all online orders now through May 29.

Why buy your textbooks through the campus stores?

  • The campus stores have worked with faculty to assure the correct course materials are available, so when you purchase your items, you can be a 100% sure it is the exact item your professor requested for the class.

  • It is easy to find out which textbooks are required for your class. See quick guide below for detailed instructions.

  • sbushopred.com, a convenient online experience, offers you more opportunities to save on the overall costs of new, used, digital and rental textbooks, course materials and supplies.

  • Two locations for free in-store pickup and customer service: Shop Red West in the Melville Library or Shop Red East in Health Sciences, Level 2 Room 310.

Here is a quick guide to order your course materials:

  1. Log into  SOLAR with your SBU ID and password. Once logged in, click “ Enrollment” under Student Records and Registration.

  2. Click on “ My Class Schedule,” then pick a term. You can view your courses and then click “ View Textbook Summary.”

  3. Once the link is clicked, the web page will redirect to a page displaying a list of all of your course materials. Select the title of the book you need by clicking on the “+” symbol next to it, which will then show purchase options for that specific book.

  4. Choose new, used, digital or rental and add to your cart. If no materials are displayed, you can sign up for an email alert for when the item becomes available.

  5. To complete your purchase, select the shopping cart at the top of the page. You can either ship your items to your home or campus residence hall for a small fee or select free in-store pickup to Shop Red West or Shop Red East.
