English Department
Commencement Celebration
|
Message from the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences:
Congratulations Department of English Class of 2022 and to the parents, partners, siblings, and friends who supported them. Thank you for joining us to honor our students and be a part of this special celebration.
The past year has brought new challenges that many of us have never experienced in
our lives. And yet here we are, celebrating your journey and looking forward to your
next chosen path, while certainly never forgetting your last year at Stony Brook University.
I applaud each of you, our amazing Seawolves! Our courageous, tenacious and dedicated
students who did not lose sight of the finish line, eager to complete this phase of
your education and achieve your dreams. Our next wave of leaders.
Today, toss your virtual caps in the air. You made it! Be safe and well.
Cheers,
Dean Sampson
Message from the Dean of the Graduate School:

I love the class of 2022—you have been nothing short of amazing. When the rest of
us, farther along in this path have felt tired or wondered at how we would move forward,
you showed us the way. You showed up--on zoom, in archives—imagining, thinking, and
creating your way through this darkness, and kept the future in view for all of us.
It is also a time of pride and joy for your family and friends who have helped you
reach this achievement. This celebration has been intensified by the struggles of
the past year, a time in which your ability to maintain your intellectual and emotional bearings
has been tested like few other generations of young scholars. Wear that as a badge of
honor and a source of strength. Congratulations, and go forth with the unique strength,
wisdom, and optimism that are already yours.
