ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT COORDINATOR
Econ Dev is responsible for maximizing Stony Brook University’s (SBU’s) economic impact through science- and engineering-based research and innovation partnerships with faculty, students, and industry. Econ Dev includes two NY State Centers of Excellence (COE) one in energy and one in wireless and information technologies, one NY State Center of Advanced Technology (CAT) in integrated electric energy systems, Intellectual Property Partners (SBU’s technology transfer office), six new venture incubator programs, Long Island’s NIST and NY State sponsored Manufacturing Extension Program (MEP/MTRC), a Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and the Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence (SPIR) program. In addition, Econ Dev has a variety of innovation and entrepreneurship programs for faculty and students and works with many other SBU offices, centers and programs.
In its boldest and most successful implementation, SBU will be a true partner with companies in bringing a broad portfolio of science-driven innovation to market and public benefit in the form of new products and services. Overall program success will be measured by the implementation of the program strategic plan, the scale and quality of industry partnerships, and increased funding through successful proposals to federal, state, industry, and other sources. To this end, the Project Coordinator (PC) is responsible for coordinating the program as well as maintaining and managing a portfolio of collaborations of joint faculty - industry partnerships and commercially-relevant research and development projects. In addition, the PC will support all requirements of program sponsors.
The Project Coordinator will be a highly motivated self-starter with a record and bias for strong, measurable results. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and professional maturity. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. PROGRAM COORDINATOR, CEBIP
For the Clean Energy Business Incubator Program (CEBIP), the Program Coordinator is an entry-level role responsible for assisting in assessing needs and providing solutions and resources to streamline “innovation to market pathways for clean energy startups in our regional and international programs”. The work involves assisting in planning and executing tailored solutions to propel CEBIP and its portfolio companies through program-defined milestones. The Program Coordinator is tasked with: collaborating to plan and execute portfolio company progress; assist in leading an assigned area(s) of expertise which may include energy policy, fundraising, or marketing and media; assist in planning and executing workshops and networking events managed or co-hosted by CEBIP; supporting elements of operations which may include administrative support, stakeholder reporting, and presentations.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Under the guidance of the Economic Development Senior Team, the new Workforce Development Manager (WDM) position is charged with building, managing, and growing a robust workforce development program in Economic Development (Econ Dev). The role is part of the Econ Dev management team and reports to the Director, Programs. The WDM is responsible for all aspects of workforce development efforts across five major Econ Dev programs and centers - AERTC, CEWIT, CIEES, MTRC, SPIR. Over time, further programs might be added and a corresponding path to progress professionally. The Workforce Development Manager role is designed to bring a comprehensive, consistent, and coherent approach across programs while achieving NYSTAR goals and requirements. This role will work with industry to determine their wants and needs, and liaise with SBU departments and programs focused on certificate and degree education and lead workforce portions within University-wide RFPs, but is not directly charged with this work.

It does so primarily through programs and centers sponsored by Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) having a specific technology or industry focus. A consistent component across these programs is industry-oriented workforce development and training initiatives. The WDM role is designed to bring a comprehensive, consistent, and coherent approach across programs while achieving NYSTAR goals and requirements. This role will liaise with SBU departments and programs focused on certificate and degree education, but is not directly charged with this work.
There are seven fundamental components to the role: 1) workforce development leadership in Econ Dev, 2) build and manage an experiential learning portfolio, 3) build and manage a workforce development program and training portfolio, 4) build and manage workforce development technology and innovation partnerships, 5) grow funding for workforce development, 6) facilitate and grow the regional workforce development and industry-oriented training ecosystem, and 7) facilitate workforce education. They are addressed in detail below. Across all of these areas of responsibility, industry, utility and government partnerships are central and critical.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, LIHTI
The Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI) is a regional startup incubator and accelerator. The Executive Director (ED) leads the organization. The position reports to the Board of Directors (BOD). The organization is an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit legal entity and has a strong affiliation with Stony Brook University (SBU). Since opening in 1992, LIHTI has been associated with many biotechnology and other technology-based businesses. Most have graduated successfully from the LIHTI program, creating jobs for hundreds employees.
LIHTI is embarking on an ambitious revision of its current operation beyond its current focus on incubation and it's a very exciting time to join and lead the organization. The new ED will shape strategy with the BOD and then lead implementation and operation. Areas being considered for expansion include startup acceleration, entrepreneurship, venture studio and in-licensing, and venture capital. LIHTI has a staffing agreement with The Research Foundation of SUNY (RF). The RF is a private educational corporation.
Provide administrative support to the Chairman of the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC) and the National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium (NOWRDC). The Sr Administrative Assistant will have the ability to quickly make decisions supporting the complex and demanding daily priorities of the Chairman. This position will be located in our satellite office in Garden City, NY.

The Center Director (CD) is the leadership role for the Manufacturing & Technology Resource Consortium (MTRC) and responsible for all aspects of a major university Regional Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP). It is part of the Economic Development (Econ Dev) senior management team and reports to the Director, Programs. Econ Dev is responsible for maximizing Stony Brook University’s (SBU’s) economic impact through science- and engineering-based research and innovation partnerships with faculty, students, and industry. It does so primarily through programs and units having a specific focus.
MTRC is Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) Regional MEP center for the Long Island region, under its award from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST, NY MEP). MTRC is designed to assist small to medium-sized manufacturing companies develop business growth and increase competitiveness through improved production, strategy, training, workforce development, and/or revitalization/renewal of their product lines.
In its boldest and most successful implementation, MTRC will be a true partner with manufacturing companies, consultants, and associated organizations. To this end, the CD is responsible for the development and leadership of the program's strategic approach to sustaining and growing the economic competitiveness of LI manufacturers. Success will be measured by the implementation of the MTRC program’s strategic plan, the scale and quality of industry partnerships and projects, the successful completion of NIST survey requirements, and increased funding through successful proposals to federal, state, industry, and other sources. Ultimately, the Director should build the MTRC into a successful NY State and national MEP program.

SOCIAL MEDIA BUSINESS ASSISTANT
This position will support social media efforts for Economic Development and SBDC; help with websites and events; compile and post social media content and small business resources across all platforms, including SBDC website, relating to resource material to assist SBDC clients and entrepreneurs at large and may include scheduling meetings and appointments; answering and directing phone calls, visitors and/or patients; collecting and recording basic statistical information. This position may compile initial resource material on a subject for analysis or review by supervisor or other staff and may maintain and update office databases.
