Facilities

Stony Brook University Economic Development is the ideal place to connect your Industry needs with world-class students, faculty, medical practitioners, instructors, and researchers.  Designated by the State as Centers of Excellence, two research and incubator facilities exist on Stony Brook University's campus, housed in the Research & Development Park - The Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT) and the Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC).  NYSTAR funds fifteen Centers for Advanced Technology (CATs) to encourage greater collaboration between private industry and the universities of the state in the development and application of new technologies. There are three CATs located on the Stony Brook Campus - in diagnostic tools and sensor systems, in biotechnology, and in integrated electric energy systems, and they also create partnerships between industry and research. Incubator space is available at LIHTI and Calverton.

Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center (AERTC): cutting edge research across a broad spectrum of new opportunities with the theme of “reliable, affordable, and environmentally sound energy for America’s future."  The AERTC supports ten major research and training centers: Center for Mesoscale Transport Properties (m2m), Center for Integrated Electrical Energy Storage (CIEES), New York State Smart Grid Consortium (NYSSGC), Advanced Energy Training Institute (AETI), NYSERDA Clean Energy Business Incubation Program (CEBIP), Center for BioEnergy Research and Development (CBERD), Center for Emergent Superconductivity (CES), New York Energy Policy Institute (NYEPI), Thermomechanical & Imaging Nanoscale Characterization (ThINC), and the New York State Center for Clean Water Technology (CCWT). Offering R&D collaboration to the nurturing of new enterprises in its incubator facilities. Each of these centers harnesses an expert team of researchers, educators and investigators dedicated to pursuing advanced energy solutions. Smart Grid information technologies, advanced materials and electronic technology products for energy storage, energy harvesting, energy efficiency and conservation, and alternative and renewable sources.

Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology (CEWIT): distributed robotics, expressive and hybrid networks, mobile computing, wireless networks, cyber security, computer vision and image processing, RF systems, microwave sensors, wireless sensor networks, computational genetics and protein docking, computational neurobiology, virtual reality, effective bandwidth utilization, wireless protocols, wireless ad hoc networks and wireless gateways. Research topics range from materials to components to systems and address devices and communications, networking, software systems, and solutions/applications for vertical markets. Offering R&D collaboration to the nurturing of new enterprises in its incubator facilities.

Long Island High Technology Incubator (LIHTI): a non-profit organization dedicated to helping new technologically-innovative companies grow by providing them with a variety of support resources and services and offering R&D collaboration to the nurturing of new enterprises in its incubator facilities. LIHTI has 40+ suites, 62,000 sf total space, office suites, wet labs; sinks, fume hoods, gas & air.

Center for BiotechnologyLocated on the campus of Stony Brook University, The Center for Biotechnology serves as an important catalyst in the development of new biomedical technologies and emerging companies in New York State. Through groundbreaking initiatives, we support the advancement of biomedical innovation by helping to bridge the gap between discovery and commercial success and by training the next generation of biomedical leaders.

Center for Integrated Electric Energy Systems (CIEES): CIEES is a New York State Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) funded by Empire State Development through the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR).  Since its inception in 2015, CIEES supports the development of future energy systems, water purification and sustainable food production through research, industry collaboration, and education. CIEES connects the world-leading expertise of Stony Brook University faculty and staff with the needs of the energy, water purification and sustainable  food industries.
