Campus Executive Chef
James “Chef K” Kellenberger is the newly hired Campus Executive Chef for Stony Brook University. Chef James was the Culinary Director at California Baptist University where he helped develop an award winning program. Recent recognition from Niche.com ranking CBU’s food service program 2nd in the state of California, and #9 when compared to the entire US. Chef James is also familiar to the academic world. He was the Academic Director for one of Southern California largest culinary programs. Besides these accomplishments in California he also had a noted career in Las Vegas working as Chef in world famous casinos such as the Rio All Suite Hotel Casino, MGM Mirage Properties, and a classic Attraction, Paramount Studios Star Trek the Experience.
Chef has obtained Academic credentials from some of the top schools and Universities for Culinary Arts and Hospitality Administration. He earned his AAS in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University. He earned a Certificate in European Food, Wine, and Travel from Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland. His Bachelor Science was awarded in Hospitality Administration from the University Nevada Las Vegas. Chef K was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to Las Vegas 24 years ago. He has had a desire to return willing to give up fun in the sun to focus more time with his extended family. None of which lived in California.
Chef K will be moving his family out this summer to join him. His family consists of Teri, his wife. She is the full time caregiver to the oldest son Riley, a teenager, who lives with severe Cerebral Palsy. Riley is a participant of A Walk on Water (#AWOW) a surf therapy program. He has been excited to learn they have chapters that meets in Long Island and New Jersey. Chef’s youngest child Trevor will be looking to starting kindergarten in the fall.
