FAQ: University Operations
At the beginning of this crisis, the University established Coronavirus response committees. These committees will consult with campus leadership, employing shared governance as we develop return to campus protocols in light of the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
No. In an effort to increase precautionary health measures, reduce community spread of COVID-19, and ensure the successful conclusion of the spring 2020 semester for Stony Brook University students, beginning March 30, 2020 we will move to remote instruction. Classes will be held through the end of the semester to ensure academic continuity, and all classes and finals will meet remotely except for experiential learning that will continue as it currently exists for students in the Health Sciences (clerkships, placements, etc.) and for some other special circumstances. All classes will be offered at their regularly scheduled times.
Undergraduate Admissions is replacing all upcoming spring recruitment and admission on-campus events with virtual platforms. If you have already made travel arrangements, we encourage you to modify or cancel them as soon as possible.

The University is moving forward in cancelling all University-sponsored and hosted events through at least March 31. These should be canceled, postponed, or conducted in a "virtual" way that does not bring large groups of guests and members of the SBU community together in a single venue. We expect members of the community to exercise good judgment to maintain the health of the SBU community and deter the possibility of the coronavirus' spread.
Undergraduate Admissions is canceling upcoming spring recruitment and admission on-campus events until further notice. We know how disappointing this news must be, and recognize the importance of campus visits for finding your “fit” at a college. With that in mind, we are pleased to offer a variety of opportunities to connect with us through virtual platforms.
Yes, Campus Dining services will be available during and after Spring Break with hours to be determined based on demand.
