FAQ: Classes and Academics for Faculty and Other Academic Personnel
At the beginning of this crisis, the University established Coronavirus response committees. These committees will consult with campus leadership, employing shared governance as we develop return to campus protocols in light of the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stony Brook University is not canceling classes. Beginning Monday, March 30, the University will transition to non-traditional delivery of classes, including online learning and independent study, until further notice.
Stony Brook is still planning for a timely start to the fall semester (on-campus), while continuing to evaluate conditions to make sure circumstances are safe for our students. We will provide updates as soon as possible related to any changes to the semester's schedule or mode of instruction.
Faculty and Teaching Assistants can find information on how to continue their courses using our campus-supported technologies at the DoIT Keep Teaching website. Support staff are available to assist with using the technologies and instructors can participate in our webinars for hands-on learning, or contact us for assistance through:

The University will begin non-traditional delivery of courses beginning on Monday, March 30 until further notice. Students requesting to stay home before that time may contact their instructors directly. Instructors should be prepared to accommodate students requesting to stay home due to illness.
Faculty should not request medical documentation from students. If the absence exceeds five days, both faculty and students may refer to the Student Support Team.
