FAQ: Domestic Admitted Students
Stony Brook is still planning for a timely start to the fall semester (on-campus), while continuing to evaluate conditions to make sure circumstances are safe for our students. We will provide updates as soon as possible related to any changes to the semester's schedule or mode of instruction.
No, pay your deposits immediately to secure your seat and on-campus housing in the incoming class. Be sure to also submit your New Student Preferences form in SOLAR by May 1. Students with specific concerns can contact email@example.com.
All requests to defer enrollment to a future semester will be reviewed after June 1. This will allow the University to confirm our fall class and evaluate our capacity to provide classes and student support services needed to educate our students for future semesters. Please submit this form to provide us with additional information. You will receive a response in by June 30. If you are still considering enrolling at Stony Brook in fall 2020, we advise you to pay your initial deposits immediately to reserve your space. These will be credited for a future term if your deferral request is approved.
Yes! Be sure to pay your housing deposit and submit your New Student Preferences by May 1. You’ll be asked to fill out an application in the Campus Housing Portal at a later time. The portal is currently not available to incoming students. First-year students who take these steps (and meet future deadlines and eligibility requirements) are guaranteed housing for four years. Transfers are not guaranteed housing, but we will provide space to as many as possible.
Our summer Orientation Part 1 program will move to an online/virtual experience. It will combine required online orientation content modules, remote advising and registration processes, small group discussions led by Orientation Leaders via Zoom, and live virtual chats. In lieu of our family and guest orientation program, we will be offering online presentations and live virtual chats. At this time, no decisions have been made about whether we will be able to host our in-person Orientation Part 2 program at the end of August. We will continue to assess this as the situation evolves.

We are evaluating policies on IB and A-level courses. We will let you know once policy decisions have been reached.
