FAQ: Classes and Academics for Students
At the beginning of this crisis, the University established Coronavirus response committees. These committees will consult with campus leadership, employing shared governance as we develop return to campus protocols in light of the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
All classes that began the semester with a grading scale of A – F or S/U will continue with it. Rather than the GPNC system that you are used to, we are moving forward with a Pass/No Credit option for this semester.
If permitted by their program, students will have the chance to designate if they want a grade or Pass/No Credit. There is no limit on the number of courses that can be designated Pass/No Credit.
All grades of ‘C’ or better will be considered a Pass.
For this semester, a Pass will satisfy both SBC and Major requirements. Schools and colleges will notify students by March 30th, the day classes resume, if students will be able to take the Pass/No Credit option.
As is true for GPNC, faculty will not know which students adopt the Pass/No Credit option.
If you have questions, please reach out to your faculty, professional advisor or major advisor.
If you have a fever, do not attend class or come to work. If you are experiencing any symptoms, please seek medical attention right away. Call your healthcare provider first to alert them of your recent travel history and/or symptoms. If you’re a student, you can make an appointment at Student Health. Just call ahead at (631) 632-6740 so they’re ready for you.
Please contact your instructors as soon as possible. Instructors are encouraged to be flexible with students impacted by this situation.
If students will be needing any disability related accommodations, please contact Student Accessibility Support Center firstname.lastname@example.org or (631) 632-6748.
As of now, Stony Brook is still planning for a timely start to the fall semester (on-campus), while continuing to evaluate conditions to make sure circumstances are safe for our students. We will provide updates as soon as possible related to any changes to the semester's schedule or mode of instruction.
