PhD Program Admissions Procedure

Stony Brook uses on-line applications for all graduate programs. Apply at https://app.applyyourself.com/?id=sunysb-gs.

Although we will consider an application file at any time and we do not have a deadline, it will be to your advantage to apply by January 1. Support is provided through teaching and research assistantships and industrial, university and departmental fellowships. Earlier applications are encouraged, particularly for international students and those wishing to be considered in the campus-wide competition for Graduate Council Fellowships.

For the 2019-2020 academic year, the Ph.D. student stipend will be $30,000 a year (plus subsidized health insurance and a full tuition scholarship).  In addition, based on the merit of their application and recommendations, we will offer selected students a one-time $4,000 recruitment  bonus , to be paid in their first semester  at Stony Brook University, bringing their first-year stipend to a total of $34,000.
