Steven Wong
Steve has been a part of the Stony Brook University community for nearly 15 years,
where he started as an undergraduate student technician with DoIT and rose through
the ranks where he would serve in many roles including IT consultant for Stony Brook
Medicine and IT Technician/Student Manager where he spearheaded numerous technical
projects. In 2014, he was selected as the IT lead for the University Police Department
and most recently as the IT supervisor and technical advisor for the Enterprise Risk
Management (ERM) senior leadership team. During his time with UPD, he led multiple
technical initiatives including the design, installation, and support of the Emergency
Operations Center and the implementation and maintenance of the body worn camera program,
which was one of the first in the SUNY system.
Steve also founded the department’s UAV program and is our Chief Drone Pilot. Steve is a Stony Brook alum and holds a BS and MS in Technological Systems Management with concentrations in Information Systems and Global Operations Management. He has also returned to this program as an adjunct professor for the Department of Technology and Society. Steve also comes with extensive experience in several emergency services disciplines where he holds both firematic and EMS instructor certifications.
