Diversity Month Submissions

The mission of the Committee to Celebrate Diversity is to cultivate a campus environment in which all members can thrive both socially and academically, and where individuals of multiple identities feel included, safe, and recognized as free and full participants of the Stony Brook University community. To stimulate conversation at Stony Brook about diversity, we encourage RAs and other campus leaders to submit events that reflect the monthly themes for the chance to win monetary awards. These monetary awards support the development of future diversity awareness events. Instructions for submitting events are below.

All entries will be featured on their respective Diversity Month Calendars, which will be published online for promotion to faculty, staff, students, and SBU partners. Event entries can be submitted at any time.

In order to be eligible to win one of the awards, you must complete an Award submission form and a Program evaluation form. You must also have five (5) attendees or one (1) advisor/supervisor complete evaluations for your event. Links to these forms can be found below. (Please note that these forms will not take the place of any program proposals your supervisor may require.) You are encouraged to include and attach supporting documentation on the Award Submission Form.

Groups sponsoring events will be ineligible to receive an award for the same diversity theme for more than two consecutive years. However, a group/organization is eligible to do so if the sponsored events are based on different themes.

Two events will be chosen each month to win $250 in programming funds! Need inspiration? Check out past winning programs here.

The entries are reviewed by both students and professional staff members who look to award those who develop opportunities for members of Stony Brook University across departments, organizations, and personal identities to come together in celebration and education of our diversity month themes.
