Yi-Xian Qin Named SUNY Distinguished Professor
The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is proud to announce that Yi-Xian Qin, Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, has been elevated to the rank of Distinguished Professor by the State University of New York Board of Trustees. This is a prestigious honor bestowed upon faculty of the highest caliber.
Yi-Xian’s commitment to Stony Brook University and the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences is demonstrated in the myriad of roles in which he has served since beginning his tenure in 1998. A founding member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, he was appointed Chair in October of 2020. Prior to this role, he served as Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and International Programs for CEAS since 2018, while also holding the position of Acting Vice President/Vice Provost for Global Affairs for Stony Brook. He was named Co-Director of the Institute for Engineering Driven-Medicine in 2020 and is also Director of the Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory.
“Yi-Xian is a highly accomplished and distinguished scholar, a passionate teacher and mentor, and an experienced administrator,” said Fotis Sotiropoulos, Dean, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. “I know everyone in CEAS joins me in congratulating him on this prestigious honor and milestone in his academic career, and thanking him for his years of service to our college and the entire Stony Brook community.
