Biomedical Engineering Professors Named BMES Fellows
The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) congratulates Professor Yi-Xian Qin and Distinguished Professor Clinton Rubin for their election to the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Class of 2019 Fellows. Qin is a Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and International Programs in CEAS. Rubin is Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering with a joint appointment in the Renaissance School of Medicine .
“Yi-Xian and Clint are leaders in their field and completely deserving of this recognition,” said Fotis Sotiropoulos, Dean, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. “Their transformative research and scientific contributions serve as an important example of the multidisciplinary work between engineering and medicine here at Stony Brook.”
According to BMES, Fellow status is awarded to society members who demonstrate exceptional achievements and experience in the field of biomedical engineering. In addition to a minimum of three years of membership and five years of active participation, candidates must demonstrate a record of exceptional achievement in a specific field within biomedical engineering, including research, education, industry, public service, new technology or clinical practice. Fellows are also encouraged to continue to pursue leadership within the society and to further improve the future of BMES and biomedical engineering.
“The BMES designation of fellow is an honor given to the most accomplished leaders in the BME field,” said K. Jane Grande-Allen, chair of the BMES Fellows Committee.
“Fellows have not only reached a pinnacle in their career, but have also demonstrated their commitment to strengthening the Society and the field of biomedical engineering as a whole. On behalf of the Fellows Committee, congratulations to the 2019 Class of Fellows!” said Grande-Allen, the Isabel C. Cameron Professor and Chair for the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University.
Professors Qin and Rubin will be recognized at the upcoming BMES Annual Meeting to be held October 16-19, 2019 in a special ceremony honoring the Class of 2019 Fellows.
