Mr. Rydquist has more than 20 years of experience in managing teams and a wide variety of projects in automotive research and development.
Carl is currently Head of the E-Mobility Group at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, which is a department comprised of subject matter experts who work closely with business partners worldwide, government and infrastructure entities to advance zero emissions technologies and to shape the future of the North American market for Mercedes-Benz hydrogen fuel cell and battery electric vehicles. The work scope includes among other things engagements in advanced battery technology and materials research, hydrogen infrastructure development and market preparation, as well as development and operation of high voltage test laboratories and the execution of vehicle technology validation projects. Prior to his current assignment, Carl managed Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America’s Durability and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems testing teams, among other positions.
In the first 15 years of his career Carl worked on numerous assignments for Volvo Cars where his main contribution was in testing and validation to bring some of the world’s first collision mitigation systems utilizing radar and camera sensors to market, offering automated braking in series production passenger cars.
Carl earned his Master’s of Science degree in mechatronics engineering from the Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.
