Society of Flight Test Engineers Scholarship

The Society of Flight Test Engineers is a fraternity of engineers, whose principal professional interest is the flight testing of aircraft and missiles. The objective of the Society is the advancement of flight test engineering throughout the aircraft industry by providing technical and fraternal communication among individuals, both domestic and international, in the allied engineering fields of test operations, analysis, instrumentation, and data systems. The Society's Long Island chapter has established an endowment to provide undergraduate scholarship support to students enrolled in programs in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Stony Brook University. The scholarship amount will depend on the yield of the endowment. (The scholarship award for 23/24 is $1,000.)

To qualify for the Society of Test Engineers Scholarship, interested students must:

A. Be enrolled as a full time undergraduate student in any major in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences for the full academic year (BOTH the fall and the spring semesters)

B. Be an junior or senior with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0

C. Have an interest in and demonstrated potential for success in a high technology area of an aviation-related field

D. Be a permanent resident of Nassau or Suffolk counties on Long Island or from the New York metropolitan area (the five boroughs of New York City: Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Manhattan and the Bronx)

Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

1. A completed application form

2. A one-page statement outlining personal and professional goals as they relate to your interest in an aviation-related field. General statements are not acceptable; you must address courses, work, research, extracurricular projects or other activities that show an interest in the field of aviation.

3. A resume

Important Notes:

All scholarship awards are subject to renewal of the scholarship by the donor and receipt of funding for these awards.

If selected to receive this scholarship, you will be required to furnish this office with a letter of thanks to the donor of the scholarship. Details will be specified in the scholarship offer letter.

 

Students who are in their graduate career of an accelerated degree program are ineligible to receive an undergraduate scholarship award.
