About the Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) - Dowload PDF

Developed with service industry businesses in mind but applicable across all disciplines, this course enhances candidates’ problem-solving abilities and engages them in Lean Six Sigma’s industry-tested system for process variation reduction. Through finance, government and health care examples, each session teaches the candidate how to apply the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) methodology within their specific project environment, setting a goal of financial benefit and organizational improvement. Through the DMAIC model, candidates receive a comprehensive framework for project management, which places strategic emphasis on team building and root cause analysis. Additionally, candidates will learn how to use process mapping, perform data collection, and apply basic statistics and graphical analysis.

The blended learning program combines classroom-based instruction, online education and project review sessions, all from a Master Black Belt.

Certification Requirements:

Candidates earn certification by passing an exam and undertaking and documenting an individual process improvement project at the candidate’s place of work or a qualified host company/organization (candidate must secure arrangements).  Successful projects require access to personnel, appropriate data and associated departments where the project is to be performed. A final report will be submitted for instructor approval, to outline performance goals and fully describe the steps taken toward improvement. Project outcomes will be documented – such as process improvement and financial impact – through the identification of before-and-after performance metrics.

The program is accredited by the Council for Six Sigma Certification, the official industry standard for Six Sigma accreditation.

Who Should Attend: 

This Six Sigma Green Belt training course is appropriate for all levels and disciplines within the organization.  It is especially relevant for technical employees in a manufacturing environment, but is also effective for those in transactional and service capacities, such as material control, IT, finance, etc.

This course is offered by the Center for Corporate Education at Stony Brook University in partnership with the University at Buffalo Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE). CCE and TCIE were formed for the same purpose: to increase the competitiveness of companies by strengthening performance. Both centers operate under the umbrella of the State University of New York (SUNY) and extend education to the working adult.

Peter Baumgartner, CSSMBB

As UB TCIE’s Operational Excellence Director, Mr. Baumgartner is a resident expert in the Lean Six Sigma methodology and tools who has delivered substantial, validated hard and soft savings across a variety of projects in finance, medical devices, insurance, food services, building materials, publishing, and other service-related industries, as well as manufacturing. He has nearly 10 years of experience with a global company in serving as the lead on a multitude of process improvement project teams that have delivered record performance in yields, cost reduction, quality and safety. With an M.S. in statistics, Mr. Baumgartner has an advanced understanding and application of statistics, and develops the potential in others through helping them understand Six Sigma and Lean methodologies.
