The Orange Game: Overview

In this game, you are a castaway stranded on a deserted island.

To survive, you search for oranges to eat. You eat oranges to add to your health. You will survive as long as your health stays above 0. If your health reaches 0, then you die and the game ends.

You will earn 5 cents for every day you survive in the game. This money will be paid to you as a bonus. You can survive for up to 30 days and if you make it that far, you are rescued and the game is over.

Health and Finding Oranges

You will start with 300 health points. Each day, your health decreases a total of 50 points from the energy your body consumes through metabolism. You can add to your health points by eating oranges.

Every day, you search for oranges. You have equal chances of finding 12 or 0 oranges.

The computer will use these probabilities to determine whether you find oranges each day.

Eating and Saving Oranges

If you find oranges, you can either eat them or save oranges for future days. To eat oranges, drag and drop them from the island onto your dish. To save oranges, drag and drop them from the island into the center of the basket. If you do not find any oranges, you can eat any oranges saved in your basket by dragging them onto the dish.

The first orange you eat in a day adds 10 more health points. The second orange you eat adds 9 points, the third 8 points, and so on until the 10th orange adds 1 health point. Any more oranges you eat after 10 do not improve your health.

The value of oranges declines because your body can only digest so many oranges per day. However, each new day the value of oranges resets so that the first orange is again worth 10 points, the second 9, and so on.

Hurricanes

The island is sometimes hit by hurricane winds that could damage your supplies. Each day, there is a 25% chance of a hurricane. When a hurricane strikes, each orange in your basket has a 50% chance of being destroyed. The computer will use these probabilities to determine each day whether a hurricane occurs and how many oranges it destroys.
