Career Coach, IT and Engineering
As a Career Coach, Kirshani supports undergraduate and graduate students who are in or interested in the IT and Engineering field though career coaching. She also works closely with CEAS student organizations; and advises students in support of experiential opportunities, internships, co-ops, and part-time employment.
Kirshani was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in Farmingdale, New York. She earned her B.S. in Science, Technology & Society and minor in Business Management from Farmingdale State College and is now pursuing her M.A. in Higher Education Administration (HEA) at Stony Brook University. Her passion for working with college students grew from her own experiences as a student and the positive impact her mentors and advisors had on her higher education journey.
At Farmingdale State College, she was an active member of the campus community and served as a Peer Mentor, Student leader, Orientation leader, Tour guide and more. She worked closely with students, helped them through their transition to college. At Stony Brook, she worked as a Graduate Assistant and Graduate Intern in the office of Student Orientation & Family Programs and the Career Center at Stony Brook, respectively. These experiences straightened her understanding of advising, coaching, and holistic student development.
At the Career Center, Kirshani loves working with students and hopes to make a positive impact on their students' experience at Stony Brook. She strives to help students obtain opportunities to better prepare themselves for the real world and help them reach their full professional potential in preparation for their future after graduation.
Fun Facts: Bilingual (Tamil/English); has a passion for learning new languages and culture; and enjoys watching international cinema.
