Stony Brook's graduate programs in Business include several MBA programs, as well as an MS in Accounting, MS in Finance and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Finance.
Stony Brook University's College of Business MBA programs include an MBA, MBA in Finance, MBA in Marketing, MBA in Health Care Management, MBA in Accounting, and MBA with concentration choices in operations management and innovation. MBA programs are either 36 or 48 credits; applicants with an undergraduate degree in business qualify for the 36 credit track; all others will be placed into the 48 track. No work experience is required. The MBA in Accounting program requires a minimum of 18 pre-requisite credits. It is designed to prepare students for New York State CPA eligibility.
The College of Business offers unique combined Master's degrees with several other programs on campus, so that students can earn two Master's degrees concurrently. These include Master of Public Health/MBA, Master of Arts in Public Policy/MBA, Medical Degree/MBA, Master of Science in Computer Science/MBA, Master of Art in Art History and Criticism/MBA, Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering/MBA, and Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering/MBA.
MBA students have the opportunity to study abroad in a unique 10 day trip to Greece during Summer Session I. MBA students can take 3 credits and will join a group of undergraduate business students in a tour of Greece which focuses on global business and entrepreneurship. This is an optional program for students.
The MS in Accounting is a program suited for accounting professionals who seek to advance their accounting skills, as well as students with a background in business management and accounting, such as the Stony Brook College of Business Accounting Minor, or students who majoring in accounting at another institution. Students in this program strengthen their accounting education and through the additional credits, achieve eligibility to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York State. Qualified students will take a prescribed 30 credits (10 classes) in the accounting area, all taught by leading College of Business accounting faculty. The program includes a capstone experience class which requires students to complete an accounting industry based class that focuses on contemporary issues in financial accounting, auditing and regulation.
The MS in Finance is a small, highly selective and focused program suited for finance professionals who seek to advance their finance skills, as well as students from other disciplines who seek to strengthen their finance expertise. Qualified students will take a prescribed 30 credits (10 classes) in the finance area, all taught by leading College of Business finance faculty. The program includes a capstone experience class which requires students to complete a finance industry based project with partner enterprises. Students who graduate with the MS in Finance degree from Stony Brook University will be well suited for careers in banking, hedge funds, corporate finance, and regulation.
The 18-credit Advanced Graduate Certificate in Finance prepares students for careers in financial management, including financial analysis, portfolio management, investment banking and corporate financial associate positions. The curriculum places an emphasis on developing financial analytical skills. It offers in-depth knowledge of the principles and techniques of finance and accounting needed to understand how corporate financial objectives are developed, measured and reported, as well as the central issues in government regulation, taxation and financial reporting.
