Marta Baumiller was born in Warsaw, Poland and travelled the world with her family to finally settle in the US. She has studied languages and been a costume maker, fashion, millinery and lighting designer, all while pursuing her artistic vision. Receiving a BFA in sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute and Maryland Institute of Art, Marta is presently completing her graduate degree in Fine Art at Stony Brook University. Here, she is experimenting across media with a focus on project-based installations. Her interests lie in merging the functional object with process, form and politics. Working primarily in three dimensions, she incorporates the viewer experientially in playful challenges of accepted social norms. Marta’s artwork, in all its various forms, can be found in galleries, hotels, and locations around the globe from The Straw Hat Restaurant in Anguilla to Salesforce offices in Silicon Valley and Westin Hotels worldwide. Her designs have been published in the New York Times, Wallpaper , Metropolis and Interior Design Magazine among others. She currently lives and works in a renovated barn/studio on the North Fork of Long Island, and enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for the arts by teaching foundation courses at Stony Brook University.
