Capital markets have remained challenging since the financial crisis of the Fall of 2008-- many investors have exited, tolerance for risk is lower, and the IPO market has been elusive for most companies. Unlike funding lifecycles in other sectors-- namely technology and life sciences-- cleantech companies are, on balance, more capital intensive, often subject to regulatory and political risks (i.e. subsidies), and face less certain adoption rates. This session will address several aspects of funding in the cleantech sector, including venture capital, private equity and project finance, and provide perspective on the state of the market, current challenges faced by investors and issuers, sub sectors and business models currently favored by investors, and advice for companies seeking funding.
