2019 D-TECH Funding Report

Departmental Technology Funds to Support Learning and Engagement

The Division of Information Technology has instituted an annual initiative* designed to provide needed technologies to departments, offices, programs, and units. Departments may apply for D-TECH funds for technology or software in support of students for program areas, departments, labs, or student support offices. Project proposals must indicate how the technology will improve student learning, engagement, retention, or otherwise improve student outcomes through the use of technology.

This year, 29 projects were funded out of a total of 48 proposals  from 36 program areas, for a total of $105,000. The types of requests fell into four primary areas:

  • Tablet devices for wireless/mobile teaching or student use
  • Computers , printers, and software for student use
  • Department -owned classroom equipment
  • Specialized  equipment for discipline-specific teaching and learning
Unexpected Benefits :
  • From the proposals made, new equipment was requested to update current learning spaces.
  • Two schools requested funding toward a larger project (SoJ and SoMAS), and while not the intent of this process, we are in discussions determine how DoIT can work collaboratively with the Schools to support their student needs.
