Mission 

CELT encourages experimentation, innovation, inclusivity, and evidence-based practices in all learning environments, and our staff expertise informs and supports this work leading to success in teaching and the student learning experience. Our services are grown and informed with innovative ideas, research-based practices, and stakeholder feedback. 

 

Vision

The Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) serves as the hub for teaching and learning, and is dedicated to the belief that excellent teaching in all its forms is vital to student success.  To that end, CELT seeks to build engaging and inclusive learning environments, provide opportunities for all faculty to flourish in an increasingly challenging educational environment, and share our expertise and leadership in innovation and support of the University’s standing as a top-tier teaching and research institution.

 

Goals

  • Promote evidence-based, pedagogically sound instruction, and a culture of teaching excellence across the University;
  • Engage in and support the University in cultivating diversity, equity, and inclusion in all learning environments;
  • Provide leadership, expertise, and support for online and digital education innovation;
  • Support and assist faculty in the collection and interpretation of student data and feedback to ensure course effectiveness and curriculum development;
  • Create a culture of robust teaching development for teaching assistants and postdoctoral associates;
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure academic rigor and continuous quality improvement through the use of research-based standards and peer review;
  • Promote and improve CELT services by proactively communicating with and gathering feedback from our constituents and the wider campus community;
  • Contribute to the scholarship of teaching and learning;
  • Provide educational evaluation services to faculty grant and research projects.
