Q. Why were you interested in working for this company?
A. I was interested in Travelers because on my site visit, I saw that the company was not only a diverse workplace but it was diverse in opportunity as well.
Q. What has been the most valuable part of your experience as a full-time employee?
A. Gaining real life experience post-grad. Even though insurance was not my major, I am learning transferable skills every single day here.
Q. Is there a project you've worked on that you're proud of?
A. I worked with a team of approximately 5-6 people to change the way we grab our work. We changed it from manual assigning to self-assigning. Though some people did not take to that idea right away, we worked together to make sure our plan would overcome all obstacles.
Q. What programs, clubs, or other resources at Stony Brook University helped prepare you for the work you're doing at your company?
A. I was the secretary of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) and Sisterhood (SAAS). Also, just being in the Health Science field I learned how to juggle multiple tasks and work in teams very well.
Q. What advice would you give to students looking for experience in your industry?
A. I would tell students to always make connections and keep all of your doors open. Don't turn away a job or internship because it's not exactly your dream. Exposure is everything and you never know who you could meet or what can happen.
