Men's Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team Honors
Five Seawolves earn scholar-athlete honors from men's and women's teams

Stony Brook, NY -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association selected the Stony Brook men's team as one of eight teams to earn ITA Division II All-Academic team honors. Seawolves' players Daniel Antonious (Jr., Stravanger, Norway), Charles Greenhut (Jr., Roslyn, NY), Otakar Krcal (Sr., Patchogue, NY) and Schelton Assoumou were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes. From the Stony Brook women's tennis team, Belvin Gong (Jr., So. Setauket, NY) was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

The men's tennis team received All-Academic honors for the third straight year as head coach Manny Tabibnia's 1997-98 squad posted a 3.56 grade point average. The team also achieved success on the court as they took home its second straight NECC Championship.

Antonious finished the year with a 3.52 GPA while taking home the NECC first flight singles title. He was also named the NECC Most Outstanding Player. Greenhut had a 3.73 GPA and won the NECC fourth flight singles title as well as teaming with Krcal to win the second flight doubles title. Krcal finished with a 3.96 GPA and was also named to the GTE Academic All-District I First Team. Assoumou finished with a 3.77 GPA.

Gong was named to the GTE Academic All-District I First Team and finished with a 3.93 GPA. On the court, she helped the Seawolves to a national ranking of 19th and a second place finish at the NECC Championships by winning the NECC Flight VI title.
