Biography

Michael Kim, MSAc, L.Ac., is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Asian and Asian American Studies at Stony Brook University and a licensed acupuncturist in New York. He earned his Master of Science in Acupuncture from the New York College of Health Professions, where he previously served in several academic and clinical leadership roles, including Interim Dean and Clinic Director of the Graduate School of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine.

Prior to entering the acupuncture profession, Michael worked in emergency medical services as a New York State paramedic. This early experience in conventional healthcare has continued to shape his approach to acupuncture, particularly his interest in bridging traditional East Asian medicine with contemporary healthcare and interdisciplinary practice. He has recently returned to EMS as a volunteer with his local ambulance corps.

In clinical practice, Michael has particular experience treating musculoskeletal conditions and pain using traditional acupuncture as well as trigger-point, motor-point, and neuromuscular approaches. Since 2019, he has also served as an acupuncturist with the US Open Players Medical Team, providing acupuncture treatment to professional tennis players during the tournament.
