Student Organization Alumni Grant Application Instructions

The Stony Brook Alumni Association Student Grant Program is designed to support and enhance student activities, programs and events organized by recognized student organizations at Stony Brook University. Specifically, the Alumni Association aims to support Stony Brook University’s overall mission, increase networking and fellowship between current students and alumni, and develop greater awareness of the Alumni Association’s goals.

Grant Awards

Applications from recognized student organizations will be reviewed on their merit for awards ranging from $150 to $1,000. Original applicants will be given priority; however, organizations are welcome to apply more than once in a given academic year.

Process and Timeline                                               

Beginning July 1 through June 30, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Applications must be submitted at least 10 weeks prior to the activity, program or event, pending the availability of funds. Completed proposals will be viewed on a monthly basis by the Stony Brook Alumni Association’s Student Engagement Committee comprised of alumni, students and staff.

A recommendation for funding will then be made to the executive director of alumni relations and responses to proposed funding will be emailed to applicant organizations.

* Please note: although applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, early application is encouraged as the grant program will no longer accept applications after its allotted funds have been disbursed. You will be notified via email regarding the status of your application.  

Criteria                                                

Activities, programs and events will be considered on the following basis:

  • Social, professional, educational, or service-oriented goals and objectives;
  • Potential to connect alumni with current students;
  • Potential to engage current students;
  • Ability to highlight benefits of staying connected with the Alumni Association;
  • Collaboration with alumni or other organizations;
  • Expected attendance and span of target audience;
  • Quality of proposed budget and marketing plan.

* Note: Receiving money in one year does not guarantee receiving money in subsequent years. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is recommended that forms be submitted as early in the fiscal year as possible (the fiscal year begins July 1).
